With a week on the road already behind me, and settling into the road life becoming easier, the next part of the journey saw me settle in New Zealand’s geothermal wonderland, Rotorua, where I had a line-up of exciting activities planned for the week ahead. The holiday park I stayed in, Holden Bay Holiday Park, was a perfect little site to call home while I was in this area. Conveniently positioned in the centre of all the activities you may find yourself doing, the park offers a pool, spa, TV room (with pool) and free wifi with great cooking and bathroom facilities, all for just $20 a night (for non-self-contained vehicles), it is an affordable and recommended park for those passing through Rotorua.

(The beauty of Waimangu Volcanic Valley)
My first activity on the list was at Waimangu Volcanic Valley, where I was in the presence of a volcano that erupted in the area on June 10th, 1888. Depending on your tour, the experience will differ so I will be talking specifically about the full Waimangu tour.

(With more volcanic beauty discovered via the boat ride)
Consisting of 2 main parts, this is a great way to learn about the volcanic activity that happened in this area while learning about the history of the land and what came before. The first part is a 1-hour 45-minute, self-guided tour, which allows you to indulge in what was said previously, and the second is a boat ride around the lake created by these eruptions, which gets you up close to the aftermath of those eruptions and what natural wonders were created as a result. Mysterious, sulphuric, and full of unique adventure, if you are interested in learning more about volcanoes and have a general interest, then I recommend this activity.
