Work has me living on an island just to the side of Auckland. It’s stunning and very too convenient, so let me describe how it is to live on Waiheke Island.

(Work begins with a beautiful sunrise)
Sun is rising on a beautiful summer’s morning as we are begging our day, ready to harvest grapes on Ponui Island. Hi everybody, welcome to my travel blog. Officially, this is my first post to start my journey; I’d like to say thank you for taking the time to click on my post and greet you all with what I plan to generate into a fun and informative string of content as I document my travels over the proceeding years. I am currently working on Waiheke Island at Man o’ War vineyards, just off the coast of Auckland. Home to around 8,000 people, the views and pictures’ scenery make for an amazing starting point on this journey around the world.
I love this aspect of travelling, the unknowingness of where you’ll end up and letting yourself be immersed in the excitement of backpacking as that’s what it’s all about, discovering new things you might have never thought about during your planning stages or ever for that matter.

Through the peaceful tranquillity of the surrounding nature, Waiheke Island is one of the most gorgeous places to be given the chance to live on, with a backdrop of blue ocean and open green fields, it makes for a stunning place to visit. While it’s very quiet and some places being secluded, there are many areas to hike around and walking trails that take you through the farmlands which never disappoint in its serenity, as our accommodation is in the middle of the vineyards.
From the outset, we had no idea as to where we would land, but given the last few months being here, we have come to love this little island. From work, there is a view of 3 different islands, ocean and, during summer, lots of boats that people come from to enjoy the offerings at our winery’s restaurant. The best part about it, is the lovely little private beaches you find yourself discovering on your off days, where you can lie down and splash about in the ocean or enjoy a picnic at if you have the time.

I love this aspect of travelling, the unknowingness of where you’ll end up and letting yourself be immersed in the excitement of backpacking. That is what it’s all about, discovering new things you might have never thought about while planning your trip. What is also so cool about it, is the fact you work and get to live with these people. As seasons change and new working conditions develop, our little accommodation grants you the opportunity to not only meet new people but form deeper connections and bonds. Consistently working with these people and living with them makes for a more enriching time. I may not have much longer left on this island, but for what it’s worth I’m happy to have been given the chance to experience island living and base myself surrounded in the outstanding nature that Waiheke Island has to offer.
